Other major cities, in order of size, are Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Swift Current, and North Battleford.

Saskatchewan is serviced by two international airports, Regina and Saskatoon. Efficient highway routes make travel convenient and hunting areas easily accessible. Access into the northern regions of the province requires a degree of coordination and you may perfer to make these arrangements through a reputable outfitter.

Regulations require non-Canadians to hunt bear, moose and white-tailed derr with a licensed outfitter. In every region of the province, you will find skilled outfitters ready to make your visit pleasurable.  When you choose an outfitter, be sure to state the particular needs and interests of your group.

Birds hunting

Saskatchewan offers excellent waterfowl hunting throughout the province, over marsh land and lake areas, as well as in harvested grain field. Upland game birds are most abundant in southern Saskatchewan. The game bird season opens in early September.

A number of Saskatchewan outfitters offer 3 to 5 day bird hunts. They will take care of the details of your trip and assure access to private land. They will provide you with some equipement such as decoy, blinds, boats and vehicles. The best outfitters will dcout the area before you arrive.

White-tails deer hunting

Saskatchewan has produced more trophy bucks than any other jurisdiction. Hunting is accessible in various locations on both public and private land.  If you plan to hunt from a tree stand, the forest fringe areas are ideal but if you are looking for more of a stalk, the parkland region of central Saskatchewan offers exiting challenges. 250 to 300 lb deer are not uncommon.

Moose and Bear hunting

Moose and black bear hunters enjoy excellent success throughout the northern forest area.  These magnificent animals provide challenging hunts, frequently involving travel by boat and ATV into remote part of the province.

Climate

Saskatchewan lies far from any significant body of water. This, combined with its northerly latitude gives it a cold summer version of humid continental climate in the central and most of the eastern part, drying off to a semi-arid steppe climate in the southern and southwestern part of the province. The northern parts of Saskatchewan — from about La Ronge northward — have a subarctic climate. Summers can be very hot, with temperatures sometimes above 32 °C (90 °F) during the day, and humidity decreasing from northeast to southwest. Warm southern winds blow from the United States during much of July and August. While winters can be bitterly cold, with high temperatures not breaking −17 °C (0 °F) for weeks at a time, warm chinook winds often blow from the west, bringing periods of mild weather. Annual precipitation averages 30 to 45 centimetres (12 to 18 in) annually across the province, with the bulk of rain falling in June, July, and August.
